Colleges / Schools

For such a small town Uvalde is blessed with two colleges Southwest Texas Junior College and Rio Grande College which is a member of the Texas State University system.

Rio Grande College offers students the opportunity to complete bachelor's and master's degrees. Students may also earn teacher certification at the elementary or secondary level.

Rio Grande College offers bachelor's degrees in nearly a dozen fields as well as master's degrees in education and business administration.

Additional degrees to be offered include bachelor of science degrees in nursing, chemistry and biology and a bachelor of business administration in management information systems.

Southwest Texas Junior College offers:
Associate Degrees: (two-year) degree programs include Arts, Sciences, Teaching, and Technical degrees.

Certificate Programs: includes core-completion (benchmark toward Associate's degree), field-of-study (benchmark toward Associate's degree), and technical (benchmark toward gainful employment) certificates.

Outreach: For area high school students.

Technical Programs: programs designed to increase employment opportunities for successful participants.

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District serves the city of Uvalde and the surrounding area. Uvalde CISD consists of one early childhood center, six elementary schools, one junior high school, and one high school.

Uvalde Junior High School will continue to strive for and expect excellence. Our staff will model and our students will become life-long learners in all that we endeavor. UJHS students and staff are expected to be high achievers, profound thinkers, hard workers and productive citizens.
